Lighting Around the Basement Staircase and Suffers a Head Injury
The plaintiff was working when she fell down stairs during an inspection of the basement of a building. There was
no railing or accessible light switch, which resulted in the plaintiff falling down the stairs and off of a
two-foot-high platform. The plaintiff hit her head and was bleeding and was transported by ambulance to the
hospital, where she was experiencing lower back and jaw pain.
As a result of the accident, the plaintiff suffered from severe back pain and headaches due to the stress of the
injury and ended up with shingles in her lower back and missed work for a considerable amount of time. She also
had extensive physical therapy to repair her leg and back.
